Due to a prior booking at Weymouth Oval, it has come to our attention that we are now required to move the ‘double wicket’ competition to another venue. Due to this, the club has been able to obtain Hawthorndene Oval for the day. All other details remain the same as previously advertised, other than the cost has been decreased by $5 for all participants.
The club hopes to see you all there on Sunday, but can you please let Jarrad or Geoof know if you plan to attend. They will be at practice tonight and/or tomorrow night and will be speaking to everyone about this event.

All players and supporters are welcome to the ‘Double Wicket’ day held this Sunday at Hawthorndene Oval (note: change of venue). Details about the day are below.
The ‘Double Wicket’ competition pits pairs of 2 players drawn out of a hat against one another in a knock-out format. Each pair receives the opportunity to face 4 overs of bowling (2 per player) and vice versa. The team with the most amount of runs after each game wins and moves on, with losers then placed in a ‘lucky losers pool’ or finished for the day. If one player is unfortunate to get out before the completion of the overs, then they act as the runner for their partner until such time as they get out or complete the overs. For all catches or run-outs made, the fielder in question receives a free soft drink from the club to be claimed on the day.
Last year, the Vander Wyst family (Theo and Aaron) took out the trophy over a couple of Belair Cricket Club boys. Let us not mention that they received a little help from a certain ‘famous’ double-wicketer, who dropped a ‘dolly’ of a catch to ensure that the final went the distance. We hope that this kind of sportsmanship isn’t repeated this year, as a fair winner is always desired.
There will be a BBQ and bar (with soft drinks) provided for all throughout the day. Various kids games are also planned, so it is a family affair for all. Costs are detailed below, but everyone would simply love to see you there.
In the end, it is a fun and social day, with the club hoping to see you all there. If you plan on attending this day, can you please let Jarrad know through an email, a call or at training this Wednesday night. His contact details are on the contacts page. Alternatively, if you speak to Geoff ‘Gyprock’ Jenner, then this message will also be passed onto the organising committee.
Hope to see you all there.
The Details:

Where: Hawthorndene Oval (change of venue)
When: Sunday, 24th of January, 2010 at 10:00am

A warm welcome back to everyone, with the club hoping that you had a festive Christmas and a safe New Year. With the start of the second half of the season approaching, there are a few items that have been happening behind the scenes at the club while others take this time to relax.
As you can see in the video below, there was certainly some Christmas cheer evident in the senior break-up night, kindly held at the Calderbank household. A big thanks goes to Justin and Jo, who kindly donated their house as well as those who attended this night. Even the big man in red decided to make an appearance for the kids, with lollies and gifts in tow.
Now that we are into the month of January, training and games resume as of this weekend. Therefore, training for the seniors begins again this Wednesday night from 5:30pm for all those who wish to play. If you cannot make training, but are able to play, then can you please email Matthew Smith. In addition, Junior training also begins again this Thursday night, pending the weather. Further details of this will be distributed to all and sundry Tuesday afternoon regarding applicable options. It is also advised that all players visit their applicable web page to see where they are playing this weekend.
On a final note, the following players have been picked to represent their applicable association in an upcoming representative game or carnival. The Coromandel Ramblers Cricket Club acknowledge their fine performances across this year, which has been rewarded by those who select these representative sides. Without further ado, the club acknowledges:
- Justin Calderbank for being selected in the 13 man side to represent the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association against Para Districts Cricket Association on the 17th of January, 2010.
- Zharius James and Alasdair McFarlane for being selected in the 13 man U/11 side to represent the South Central Junior Cricket Association in a 3/4 day carnival to be held against other junior cricket associations between the 4th and 7th of January, 2010.
In additional news, the upcoming Twenty20 match between Coromandel Ramblers and Morphettville Park will either be held on the Friday, 15th of January (under lights at Blackwood Football Club) or Sunday, 17th of January (afternoon at Hawthorndene Oval). More information on this will follow shortly.
The club hopes to see you out on the track this week as well as enjoying a game this weekend. Please remember that the Double Wicket and Quiz Night are coming up fast, so please prepare for these fund-raising and social events of the year.

The Ramblers Xmas show is on once again this saturday from 7pm, after the conclusion of this round’s matches.
Family members are more than welcome and the club will be supplying a free BBQ including salads. The Ramblers esky will be selling a variety of beers, Jim Beam, soft drinks etc, but you are also welcome to BYO.
Justin Calderbank has backed up again from last year by offering his premises (25 Ramsay Ave, Reynella East) for this breakup. He has even selected a space on the lawn for the swags of weary cricketers who can’t make it home.
A flyer for this event is located on the social events web page. In addition, flyers for the ‘Double Wicket’ and the Quiz night can also be located on this web page.
All 4 teams are in strong positions for a win this game, so it should be a great way to finish off a successful round for the club .
Please note there will be no post-game BBQ/presentations at Weymouth Oval – all these will be done at Justin’s.
Regards,
Matthew Smith (President)

Thanks to the efforts of the Ramblers’ committee (particularly Jarrad Benson), we’ve been fortunate enough to receive a $1000 grant from the Mitcham Council to go towards our new junior program.
This will aid purchases such as more junior equipment, supplies and so-on.
With 65 Milo in2CRICKET participants every Friday night + an Under 11s team on Sundays, it’s a great start for the club’s new projects.
Photos are from Tuesday night’s acceptance event @ Mitcham Council with Matt accepting the grant from Mayor Ivan Brooks.
