ROUND 2 RESULTS | 2020/21
ROUND RECAP: Back to Back wins for our A Grade, a standout partnership in the C’s and first game for our Under 10’s and 12’s!
A GRADE: Round 2 saw the Ramblers face up against old foe Plympton at home. Good form at the coin toss continued and we were sent into the field on what started as an overcast day. After a couple of early wickets the opposition captain would combine with the opener to put on a 43 run stand, before new speedstar Blake Wilson would break through with 2 in an over. The Ramblers lads were able to take control of the momentum and another solid bowling display saw Plympton add just 55 runs for the remaining wickets.
Plympton all out for 101 in the 39th over. Best with the ball:
C. Farrell – 3/12 from 8
N. Work – 2/16 from 5
B. Willson – 2/20 from 5
Chasing a similar total to round 1, the lads built on last weeks performance by showing a good balance of patience and intent. The total chased down in the 30th over for the loss of 4 wickets. Josh Rosman continued his form at the top of the order starting off our innings on the right foot, before Nick Work brought the team home with an excellent display of shots.
Best with the bat:
J. Rosman 39
N. Work 37*
Next week we travel down to Happy Valley for our first 2-day game of the year. Go Ramblers.
B GRADE: We took on Port Noarlunga down at Seaford Primary School. After 20 overs they were well placed at 4/90. We struggled as a unit to bowl to the plan consistently but good performances were returned from Emil with 8 overs 1/17, Merritt 8 overs 4/42, and JC 7 overs 3/18. We did well to keep them to 153. We were confident we were in the game but we failed to put on a partnership with wickets falling regularly. Emil batted well at the top of the order with 19 from 64 balls and AOK looked solid in the middle order with 24 from 55 balls. Congratulations to Travis Croft on his first game in B grade behind the stumps.
C GRADE: Losing the toss we were sent in to bat. We were off to a shaky start, with both openers, Smith & Handke run out early, followed quickly by Strauss & Strunk. After 13 overs we were 4/50. Enter young Ben Wender and Rick “Cult Figure” Vale who was celebrating his 50th game. Together they produced a brilliant 136 run partnership. Ben batted beautifully, with superb shots on both sides of the wicket, eventually dismissed for 87 from 110 balls. A fine innings. Ricko, plundered the attack, making an entertaining 68 from just 78 balls. What a way to celebrate his 50th game! Ramblers total after 40 overs was 5 for 213.
With a strong Ramblers bowling attack we felt confident of defending 213. Rochow and Whitfeld bowled well early, restricting North Haven to just 24 from 10 overs. O’Keefe, Morey & Wender bowled well and at drinks North Haven were 2 for 62. Unfortunately, North Haven then scored 138 from the last 15 overs. Our fielding wasn’t to the high standard of the previous week and ultimately dropped catches cost us dearly. However, at the death, we were still in the game. North Haven winning from the last ball. Charlie Whitfeld, playing his first game of the season, was the standout with the ball, bowling his 8 overs 1 for 16. A disappointing loss but so many positives to be taken from the game and I’m sure this will stand us in good stead for the remainder of the season.
D GRADE: Playing Coromandel at Blackwood Hill, Gringo won the toss and elected to bowl. Our opening pair Alex Manning and Joel Bates bowled well to restrict the score to just 0/16 after the first ten overs. After that Coromandel picked up their run rate and were 0/70 after 20overs. We continued to fight hard taking a couple of good catches. Coromandel ended up with 3/192. Leading bowlers were Manning 0/12 off his 8overs, and Alex Ker 2/27 off of his 6overs.
Once again we struggled with the bat. Only Steve Davenport and Alex Ker showed any resistance scoring 23 and 19 respectively. Disappointingly we were bowled out in the 27th over for 75runs.
UNDER 14’s: The U14’s resumed their fielding innings this week with Coromandel 0/13. With tight bowling for the first 2 overs, 2 quick wickets fell. The boys fielding was much improved with excellent catches from Josh (3), Gabe (2) and Thomas (1) right on the boundary. Charlie kept well with a caught behind and a stumping and Jacssen earned 2 wickets in one over. Unfortunately we had 41 extras but the boys worked well together and there are great signs to come. The final result Ramblers 10/92, Coromandel Green 10/159. We are looking forward to our first T20 this Friday back at Hawthorndene.
UNDER 12’s: For the first game of the season we hosted Happy Valley Black at Weymouth Oval. Captain this week – Euan won the toss and elected to bowl first. The bowling and fielding display was exceptional for our first game, after only having two trainings sessions, due to the weather. Henry and Aarnav kept wicket beautifully, with the whole team fielding well. Elliot, Josh S, Archie and Mitchell each claimed a wicket and Euan bagged 2. Happy Valley posted 6/124 for us to chase down. Our batting faced some very good bowling from Happy Valley and we quickly lost wickets, leaving us 7/39 in the 15th over. Some determined batting by Henry, James, Josh S, Archie and Elliot meant we didn’t lose another wicket until the 29th over. Leaving us all out for 84.
A good first game of season, especially by those moving up from the U10’s or our new players commencing in club cricket.
UNDER 10’s: For our first game of Under 10s for season 20/21 we travelled to Cove Sports Club for a home game as Hawthorndene Primary School was unsafe to play on. We lost the toss and sent out to field. All the boys bowled and fielded well with Frazer taking 4 wickets and a run out. Other wicket takers were Ben, Eamonn, Ethan Clark, Leon and the Captain Max. All the boys batted well only losing 1 wicket through the innings and 2 runs outs and the end. Frazer topped scored with 13 and was Man of the Match. Well done to all the boys in their first game.
